THE GREATEST GAME IN THE WORLD Football is the most popular game in the world. It is played by millions of people all over the world. There is a great demand for playing football within the Asian Community too. Being the world's most popular game it is being played everywhere from the streets to the professional pitches, and people of Bangladeshi origin are not being left behind. It has been long recognised that an Asian player will inevitably burst into the national limelight and break into a Premier League first team. Sylhet Tigers Football Club(S.T.F.C) In a league of it's own
S.TF.C are proud to announce their official launch with the support of the Royal Navy, NatWest, MoneyGramâ " and Smoke Free Birmingham. Sylhet Tigers F.C is run by Bangladesh Community Development (BCD), a council backed charity organisation which works with Birmingham schools, colleges and universities for the education of Bangladeshi and Asian families. BCD would like to develop football in the community, which undoubtedly has great potential. BCD and S.T.F.C. endeavour to encourage more Asians into football as well as tackling the shortage of Asian professional players. We want to enhance the opportunity of a Bangladeshi player breaking through to the Premier League. Bangladeshis are seen to be extremely talented at this sport, thereby BCD and S.T.F.C will work closely with local premiership sides to make dreams of youngsters come true. S.T.F.C. will participate in competitive leagues and players of all ages and ethnic backgrounds are welcome. S.T.F.C is always on the look out for young, gifted and committed soccer stars. If you would like to be a part of this exciting and unique team, please contact the S.T.F.C. headquarters at the address below. The team will receive coaching from professional coaches and receive tips from current players. S.T.F.C. operates a NO SMOKING policy and is working in partnership with Smoke Free Birmingham to create a healthier lifestyle for Brummies. ASIANS IN FOOTBALL It is a well known fact that there simply aren't enough Asians in the world of football. There are complex reasons for this but the one which seems to be on everyone's lips concerns racism. Are Asians being deprived of a chance because of a stereotypically racist minority! If so, why! Excuses are being made but these simply are not concrete, and cannot be accepted. Black players were similarly disregarded in the early 1970s but they managed to come through it so why can't Asians! Some players from the Asian sub-continent have managed to be scouted by professional teams but predominantly remain in the youth teams. These include Harpal Singh (Leeds United), Anwar Uddin (West Ham). Bhaichung Bhutia, an Indian International, however has broken into Bury's first team and is doing well. "They said Asians couldn't play football..." "There's no question in my mind that Asians have the talent to succeed at the highest level" Kevin Keegan, England Coach. Kevin Keegan has acknowledged this and surely it is only a matter of time before other managers follow suite. Many top clubs are fast realising the potentials of Asian youngsters and are taking actions to ensure they do not slip through the net! "I believe that to ignore potential on our doorstep is a criminal waste. I want to make sure that every young boy has a fair crack at the whip at Leeds" Alan Hill, Director at Leeds United Football Club, speaking in "Kick Racism out of Football" Other clubs also doing this are West Ham, Leicester and Blackburn.
