Background
Members of the Bangladeshi community founded Bangladesh Community Development, (BCD) in 1994 to address the difficulties encountered by British-Bangladeshis in Birmingham. BCD supports the Bangladesh community by running projects that offer educational support to students of all ages; raise educational awareness among Bangladeshi and other Asian parents; provide the opportunity for Bangladeshi children to learn their mother tongue, and provide unemployed Bangladeshis with vocational and employment related training courses and career development courses. These courses, run by BCD, provide Bengali's with the confidence to integrate and progress in all areas of their lives.

Young Persons Work
BCD is developing a project to provide a programme of constructive recreational, educational and vocational support for Bangladeshi and Asian young people (age 13-19) that will help address the problems of anti-social behaviour and drug abuse.
Supplementary School
Established for seven years this project provides additional support in school and the opportunity for out of school hours learning. The main objectives are to provide academic and pastoral assistance to Bangladeshi and Asian children in different schools and to enable parents to provide the support and motivation required to enable children to achieve their potential.
Outreach Project
The Bangladeshi Community Education Outreach Project is primarily targeted at Bangladeshi women and parents. It concentrates mainly on various employment related training courses, providing access to valuable training opportunities supported by BCD.
Bangladeshi Festival
This annual celebration includes music, dance, exhibitions, cuisine, a fashion show, sports and many other attractions which showcase the best of Bangladeshi arts and culture. It also puts on view a huge range of opportunities for young people across the city with stands featuring careers information, Universities and Colleges.

Sylhet Tigers football club
BCD would like to develop football in the community, which undoubtedly has great potential. BCD and S.T.F.C. endeavour to encourage more Asians into football as well as tackling the shortage of Asian professional players.
