Supplementary School
This project provides the opportunity for out of school hours learning. Through this project BCD provide access to study centres where students can be given support with their studies particularly with core curriculum subjects, SAT s and G.C.S.E exams.
The Bangladeshi Community Education Outreach Project is primarily targeted at Bengali women and parents. It concentrates mainly on various employment related training courses, providing access to valuable training opportunities supported by BCD. The courses available include: ESOL, Bengali GCSEs, Food & Hygiene and Information Technology. This helps to develop the confidence and integration there-by reducing unemployment. The Outreach project also helps in finding bilingual classroom assistants to train school leavers.
We run accredited sewing course in conjunction with Joseph Chamberlain College and have six smart new Sewing Machines in our training room. Sewing is a traditional trade in Bangladesh and this course is designed to increase the opportunities for women trying to secure employment or just participate in recreational activities.
In addition, we have been delivering IT training for both women and children and unemployed men. Other courses/activities include:
- Health and Nutrition, Sewing, Keep Fit, Basic/Life Skills
- Bengali and English GCSE
BCD's range of projects provides a holistic approach to combat the problems facing the community. Our work in schools and with youth means that we are reaching a wide section of the community and provide additional opportunities for us to identify and engage with people who may benefit from our services.
" have learnt a lot of new things from this course, which will help me in my job." Student: Jewel Ahmed Choudhury
