This project provides the opportunity for out of school hours learning. The main objectives are to provide academic and pastoral assistance to Bangladeshi and Asian children in different schools. Through this project BCD provides access to study centres where students can be given support with their studies particularly with core curriculum subjects, SATs and G.C.S.E exams. The work of this project continues to build important links with parents and teachers. This project also runs 'parenting' classes providing information for parents on how they can assist in their child's education.
We believe that when children are "struggling" at school they fail to reach their full potential unless they are given the additional tutoring and support they need. We have maintained excellent links with schools in the local area. In addition we've held "Bengali story telling sessions" for children of Bangladeshi origin aged 8-11years at local libraries. Our aim is to increase the total number of children being supported and also provide bilingual support at meetings and parents evenings where required.
Sharmin say's that she likes Maths and English club because
it provides her
with extra support which she does not receive at home.
BCD's range of projects provides a holistic approach to combat the problems facing the community. Our work in schools and with youth means that we are reaching a wide section of the community and provide additional opportunities for us to identify and engage with people who may benefit from our services.
BCD computer training sessions are proving popular with both children and adults. Children are able to use computer equipment "out of school" hours to their coursework on Microsoft Word, practice presentations on Microsoft PowerPoint etc, all of which are under constant supervision as well.
